Mafia needs someone to run it, and that person never gets to play. Mafioso gives the job to a phone: it deals the roles, runs the night while everyone's eyes are shut, and works out who survived by morning. Nobody sits out, nobody has to remember whether the doctor got there first, and the arguing — which is the actual game — is left entirely to the table.
